Christine's career in accounting began in 1998 when she commenced the Advanced Diploma of Accounting. She has continued on with various accounting units at uni and other courses.
She founded her bookkeeping business in 1999, and has continued to service her own loyal clientel whilst also gaining valuable work experience in various accounting firms, large not for profits and in small business. Because she is a small business owner she can feel your pain and understand some of your struggles because she has been there and has learned strategies along the way that will help you! Because she has also worked in accounting firms with tax agents, she understands their language, and is efficient at ensuring that you have everything in order for them. Not for profits have provided a lot of experience with fringe benefits, grant applications and acquittals, budgeting, governance, fund raising and more.
Of course, there is more to life than work and business, Christine is a friendly person with many interests. She lives in a rural part of the Channel on a small hobby farm and has a passion for growing and preserving her own produce. When she is not busy with work, you will more than likely find her outside in the garden, cooking up a storm in the kitchen, or out and about walking her dogs (she has white German Shepherds). Music is another passion of hers - she has been known to play the clarinet, guitar and teaches piano for beginners.
Christine has always been community minded and in the past has volunteered her time and services to local community organisations. Some of her roles have been:
Volunteer fire fighter for 10 years
Treasurer and board member of the Kingborough Community Enterprise Centre
Treasurer and past committee member of Channel Living Inc
Past Member of the Salvation Army Community Care Ministries team - grief counsellor and carer, and Area Captain for the Red Shield Appeal.
She is a hands on, down to earth family person who genuinely cares about her clients business needs.
"BK CONSTRUCTION and Channel Mooring Maintenance have been using Christine Behrens for all our book keeping and general accounting work since 2009. Christine has done a remarkable job in straightening out our bookkeeping system which was in a mess and to this end Christine was able to recover from the ATO and ASIC a significant amount of overpaid taxes and sort out all our booking keeping problems. Christine has proven to be the a very important asset that contributes to the continuing success of my small business"
Bob Kelly / Director / Channel Moorings Maintenance
"A valued client of mine has been using Christine Behrens' bookkeeping services for the last 3 years, and as his accountant I have been very impressed with the quality of Christine’s work. It is always accurate, timely and extremely easy to follow. She provides me with easy to understand and comprehensive working papers that assist in me doing the best job possible for my client. On this basis I would highly recommend Christine for any future bookkeeping appointment"
David Cornell / Partner / Cornell Irving Partners
"Christine Behrens has worked for the NILS Network from May 2010 until February 2011. In her role as NILS Network Admin Officer/Bookkeeper, Chris was responsible for the day-to-day administration of the office, accounts and loan pool of the NILS Network of Tasmania and performed a number of important tasks including (but not limited to):
Creditor and debtor functions
Maintenance of the NILS database
Preparation of monthly accounts
Oversight of tax and insurance matters including BAS
Assisting the co-ordinator to ensure timely completion of invoicing and ordering
Responding to client requests and communication with clients about their loan
Chris was able to complete all tasks effectively. She was able to communicate clearly and effectively by phone and current and potential clients. She was careful and thorough with her work and was able to work with minimal supervision. She showed enthusiasm and a willingness to learn new skills. Chris had an excellent relationship with other team members and left NILS only because she was expecting a child. Chris was reliable, well-presented and a pleasant employee and I can recommend her".
Rick Tipping / Partner / Nills Network Tasmania
"This is to introduce Christine Behrens who was contracted to Eumarrah from 5 January 2010 to 11 July 2010 doing bookkeeping and accounts. She was contracted to fill in while our normal accountant took over my duties while I was on leave and then took leave himself. While she was with us Christine used the Exo accounting package and MYOB for payroll. Her role encompassed everything from invoice entry to bank reconciliations, account enquiries, payroll, BAS, and monthly reporting. Christine was good and competent at her work. We found her to be reliable, honest, helpful and intelligent."
Alban Johnson / Proprietor / Eumarrah
